Ruhlman wins at I-96 Speedway in Ionia, MI

Clarklake , MI   ( May 10, 2005 )

Brian captured his first feature win of the 2005 season at I-96 Speedway in Ionia , MI on Friday Night with the #49 late model.  Brian won his heat race and redrew to start on the pole with Kris Patterson on the outside of the front row.  Brian pulled away at the start, but a yellow flag forced a restart.  At the drop of the green flag, Brian once again pulled away from Patterson and the rest of the field.  Brian had a 5 car lead on Patterson in lap 6 when a caution came out.  Brian took the checkered flag as it started to sprinkle.  The sky opened up and let the rain fall just after pictures were taken in the winner’s circle!  Brian’s win put him in the points lead at I-96!

Saturday night Brian made the journey to Wauseon , OH to compete at Oakshade Raceway.  Although this was not an ALMS event, several other ALMS regulars were there to compete as well, including Kris Patterson, Rusty Schlenk, and Aaron Scott.  Due to a bad pill draw and a field of nearly 50 late models, Brian started last in his heat race. He rallied to a 5th place finish on a track that didn’t allow for a lot of passing, putting him into the 4th starting position in the B-main. Brian won the B-main earning a 16th starting position in the feature event. Handling problems kept him from improving on his starting position in the feature.

Next weekend will bring another ALMS event at Hartford Speedway in Hartford , MI on Friday night.  Once again Brian will be piloting the #11 Lawrence Motorsports late model for this event.  Currently Brian is sitting third in the ALMS points, only four points behind leader Aaron Scott.  Saturday night Brian will be in attendance at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg , OH for the “Family Fun Night”.  He will be driving the #20 modified owned by Chuck Sanning.
