Saturday night, the team traveled to Oakshade Raceway. Brian won his heat race in a hard fought duel with Hillard Miller that would have only the winner eligible for the feature re-draw. The team drew the #1 pill, giving them the pole position for the feature event. Brian led the entire race with up to a straightaway lead over the field at some points in the race. A lap 22 caution bunched up the field and allowed a late race challenge by Rusty Schlenk. Brian pulled away in the remaining 8 laps and picked up his 2nd win in as many nights.
Sunday night brought the ALMS teams to Eldora Speedway where the ALMS regulars found themselves up against some of the best traveling racers in the business who were tuning up for the upcoming Dream race. Donnie Moran, John Gill, Darrell Lanigan, Scott James, and Matt Miller were a few of the ‘heavy hitters’ competing for the $2000 prize. Brian qualified 10th quick, starting him 5th in the 5th heat race. Brian finished 2nd in his heat, transferring him to the feature event. Starting the feature from the pole position for the second night in a row, Brian held on for a 5th place finish, topping all other ALMS regulars. Although Brian’s winning streak was broken, the crew was able to gain useful set up information they will use in the upcoming “Dream” race in two weeks at Eldora. Brian’s 5th place finish also moved him into 2nd place in the Eldora points standings just 2 points out of the lead.
Monday night, the ALMS traveled to the Fremont Speedway to compete in the last of the 4 weekend events. Brian qualified 8th quick, starting him 5th in the 4th heat race. Brian finished 3rd, transferring to the feature event. Starting the feature event from the outside pole, the team dubbed him “front-row Brian” for earning a front row starting spot for the third night in a row. Brian was able to move into the lead early in the race but was overtaken by a hard charging Matt Miller and Jeep VanWormer. Brian held onto the 3rd spot until a late race caution bunched the field up for a 2 lap dash at the end. Rusty Schlenk edged out Brian at the line resulting in a 4th place finish.
ALMS point standings as of Monday, May 30th has Brian in the lead by 11 points over Aaron Scott, who was atop the standings going into the weekend. Rusty Schlenk is 3rd, 15 points out of the lead with Kris Patterson in 4th, 41 points behind Brian.
Ruhlman racing would like to thank car owner Mike Lawrence and the rest of the crew for a great weekend and an “awesome” race car.
